Abhijeet Dipke Gets Conditional Bail, Asked To Sign A Rs 50,000 Peace Bond
Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke was granted conditional bail by the Special Executive Magistrate (SEM) court at Mandir Marg in New Delhi on Saturday. He has been directed to furnish a personal bond of Rs 50,000 and is expected to be released shortly.
Under Sections 126 and 170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), Dipke will have to comply with the conditions of the bond, including maintaining peace for one year.
Dipke was taken into preventive custody by Delhi Police on Friday ahead of the CJP’s 'Lehra Do Tiranga' protest march at Connaught Place. He was booked under Sections 126 and 170 of the BNSS, police said.
Ahead of the march, more than 20 police personnel visited Dipke’s residence and served him two notices. One prohibited him from holding a demonstration, procession or rally in the vicinity of Connaught Place, citing concerns over a possible stampede and traffic disruptions. The other concerned alleged violations of bond conditions.
The second notice, issued by the Special Executive Magistrate, referred to the bond conditions imposed on Dipke and CJP co-leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka. It reiterated that the three had previously been taken into preventive custody and produced before a court, which directed them to maintain peace and good behaviour for one year.
On October 10, Dipke, Das and Ranka were taken into preventive custody ahead of a planned protest and produced before a Special Executive Magistrate’s court at Delhi Cantt police station. They were subsequently released after furnishing surety bonds of Rs 50,000 each and undertaking to maintain peace and good behaviour for a year.
The CJP had scheduled its ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ march at Central Park in Connaught Place for 5 pm on Friday. However, Delhi Police denied permission for the march, citing prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the BNSS, which restrict mass gatherings in Connaught Place and adjoining areas.
Despite being served the two notices earlier in the day, Dipke was detained preventively by Delhi Police on Friday while on his way to join the march. All India Students’ Association (AISA) chief Neha Bora was also detained at Mandi House while heading to the protest.
Dipke was picked up from his residence in Jhandewalan, while Bora was detained at Mandi House. Their detentions triggered scenes of jostling involving crowds, camera crews and security personnel.
